Obesity The one organ in our body which gives us the real meaning of being alive is our heart. People can at times be brain dead yet alive. Genetically Modified Mosquitoes???? What else is going to happen?

Image
Mosquitoes are some of the most deadly creatures on the Earth. They carry viruses, bacteria and parasites, which they transmit through bites, infecting millions of people. Currently, control of the diseases such as Zika virus and Dengue virus is mostly limited to broad - based insecticide sprays, which can harm both humans and non - target animals and insects. What if there's a way to control these devastating diseases without the environmental problems of widespread insecticide use? GM mosquitoes to prevent diseases may sound like science fiction, but the technology had advanced recently to such an extent that there is no longer a scenario related to late - night movies. Today,GM mosquitoes, developed during the past several decades of extensive research in various famous universities, are being used to combat mosquito - borne pathogens, including viruses such as Dengue and Zika,in many places around the world. Progress is also being made to use GM mosquitoes to combat malaria, the m

How to get rid of phobias?

Image
See,vaccines involve needles. Since childhood, many people have needle phobia. Even thinking about them sends those people a spiraling into a private hell inside their mind, while their body gives way to symptoms like heart palpitations and even fainting. Years of knowing about their extreme reactions had left me wondering: Where do such phobias come from? And could people ever get over them? Some people are even terrified of doctors, hospitals and medical exams. Some of their fears go hand in hand with their mistrust of medicine and faith in alternative treatments like herbs and reflexology. Some argue countless times for treatments of things like acid reflux,by applying mustard seeds or applying pressure to the bottom of their foot. Though, people have still managed to rebel against these beliefs, the familial fears have been held on tight,so much that I have pondered whether the phobias could actually be genetic. Some researchers also took and analysed samples of a few people's D

Why do mosquitoes seem to bite some people more than others?

Image
There's always one in a crowd,a sort of harbinger of the oncoming mosquito bite,a person, mosquitoes seem to target more than others. What is it about these unlucky chosen few that makes them mosquito magnets?  Mosquitoes are stimulated by numerous factors when seeking out a blood meal. Initially, they are attracted by the carbon dioxide we exhale. Body heat is probably important too,but once the mosquito gets closer,it would respond to the smell of a potent blood source skin. There are upto 400 chemical compounds on the skin that could play a role in attracting or perhaps, repulsing mosquitoes. This smelly mix, produced by bacteria living in our skin and exuded in sweat, varies from person to person and is likely to explain why there is a substantial variation in how many mosquitoes we attract. Genetics probably plays a big role in this, but a little of it may be down to diet or physiology. Sweat contains lactic acid, which is a key mosquito attractant, particularly for human - bit

Is being tall actually great?

Image
Being tall may get you a spot on the basketball team, and it may even be good for your self esteem. But I don't think being tall actually helps. Why? Towering over your peers may also affect various aspects of your physical health,as well..  Recently, researchers also investigated the link between height and venous thromboembolism. They also found that men shorter than 5'3" had a 65% lower risk of developing a venous thromboembolism, which is basically a type of blood clot that starts in the vein, than men taller than 6'2". Well why does this happen? Gravity may be influencing the link. It could just be that because taller individuals have longer leg veins, there could just be more surface area for the problems to occur. Increased gravitational pressure in the veins of taller legs can also increase the risk of slow blood flow or even stop the blood flow temporarily. Being tall may be a marker of over - nutrition - specifically eating too many high calorie proteins.

WHAT ARE THE KEYS TO EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE?

1. Self-awareness: This is when the person has the ability to read their own emotions and recognize their impact.  2.Self-management: Once a person has identified an emotion they are having, they have to learn to control it or make decisions based on it. Self-management is the ability to use intuition or gut feelings to guide decisions based on their emotions. For young people especially, it involves controlling one’s emotions and impulses and adapting to changing circumstances of their environment. 3. Perceiving Emotions: This is the ability to detect and decipher emotions in faces, pictures, and voices. 4. Social awareness: This is the ability to sense, understand, and react to others’ emotions while comprehending social status, standing and where you are in your social network of people. Actually, teens are quite good at this because social hierarchy often matters the most in High School. The key is tying their heightened social awareness to their self-awareness and then maki

What is emotional intelligence? Why is it important?

Image
Emotional intelligence is the capacity, skill,or ability to identify and assess emotions of oneself,of others and of groups. It is an essential part of our day to day interactions. Well,it's important in three major ways: 1. Relationships with others: Having a high emotional IQ helps individuals connect with others, and develop deep relationships because they will be able to read their friends, and then respond with empathy and compassion. 2. Personal satisfaction and contendedness: It's not only important for your interactions with others, but also for personal well - being. People who are better able to express themselves and distinguish their own emotions - whether it's anger, guilt, fear or even jealousy, are typically happier in life.  3. Worldview: It helps us to be empathetic and compassionate. Our emotional button is often what drives us to help another human, whether it is our friend who is struggling for an exam,or giving a hand to our mother, struggling with the gr
