IS MIND - BODY CONNECTION ACTUALLY TRUE??

The term 'mind - body' is thrown around like a nut in a coffee grinder. If you want to be healthier, learn how to be happier. Your mind is more powerful than you think. How you feel and what you think can directly affect your body, by changing the structure of your brain and the functioning of your immune system.

The more you feel positive emotions like gratitude and awe, and the better you learn to control your negative emotions like fear and worry, the more your body becomes resistant to infection, inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and even general aging. Each biochemical reaction that takes place is either moving us towards health or away from health. We are never in a state of stagnation. It is interesting that negative thoughts rooted from fear, are associated with inflammation and catabolism while positive thoughts rooted in love, are associated with anti - inflammatory chemicals and tissue regeneration and repair.

The concept of the 'mind' encompasses mental states including thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and emotions. Different mental states can positively/negatively influence biological functioning. This occurs since the nervous, endocrine and immune systems share a common chemical language, which allows constant communication between the mind and body, through messengers like hormones and neurotransmitters.

Neurological pathways connect parts of the brain that process emotions with the spinal cord, muscles, cardiovascular system and the digestive tract. This allows major life events, stressors, or emotions to trigger physical symptoms. You may have experienced this aspect of mind - body connection when you feel butterflies in your stomach when you feel nervous, or when your heart feels like it is pounding out of your chest, when you are under intense stress.

To avoid the buildup of toxic emotions, that can disrupt your physical health, you need to remain present and aware. Paying attention allows you to identify emotions that arise, process them and choose how you react. One way to effectively express, feel and get your feelings out is to talk about them. This can be done out loud by speaking to a trusted friend or on paper, through journaling practice.

Stay safe, and stay positive !! Positive vibes are the need of the hour, so let's circulate positivity all around !!
